After finishing as runner-up two years in a row, Ralph Guldahl won the Sixth Masters Tournament by one shot over Sam Snead on April 2, 1939. Guldahl shot 279 after a final-round 69, just good enough to beat Snead, who had 68. Non-Masters notes: Born on this date were: Shane Lowry (1987), J.J.
